New Horizon

Three knocks on my door. The earth moved around the sun 3 times before these knocks arrived at my door.

I held my breath and let my heart roar as I reached for the locks to rest my eyes on his. When was the last time our eyes met like this? It didn’t matter. It didn’t feel like any time had passed since then.

Sure, the clothes that wrapped him looked different and there’s facial hair that wasn’t there before. But his eyes were the same warm brown as I remember. The kind of warmth you get sitting by a hearth of a crackling fire on a cold, clear night. Like sweet wine between old lovers. Like a sunrise on a new day.

These two halves of a body lost to time and ignorance. Separated bodies still growing into itself; and suddenly I lost mobility as I opened the door wider to let him in.

Eyes that found each other again. Hands that didn’t know where they belonged. Bodies that stripped away from earth.
